Nunu & Willump
Nunu grew up learning from his mother how to tell the folk tales of the Freljord. She taught him how to tell the stories through song, passing down melodies for him to play on his flute, which he named the Svellsongur.
After getting separated from her in an attack, Nunu grew up yearning to be a hero brave enough to seek out and find her. But time after time, by the Frostguard and even his fellow children, he was reminded that he is not a hero.
Desperate to prove himself a hero, Nunu set out to find and conquer the yeti – a vicious beast that played a central role in his folk tales.
But upon finding the beast, and connecting to it, they became fast friends. A team, moving together throughout the Freljord. A boy and his yeti.
I thought the lore and visual update on Nunu was one of League of Legend's best. In general, I'm a big fan of the Freljord as a setting and theme. And in Legends of Runeterra, I love that yetis is a supported archetype.
Plus, I gotta dig the heavy Where The Wild Things Are influence on the duo. A great book, with one of the best trailers ever, featuring "Wake Up" by Arcade Fire.
Keys to the Character
I Wish I Was A Baller
Nunu hurls snowballs from his perch on Willumps shoulders. And Willump gets in on the action sometimes too... with much bigger snowballs.
Sharp As Ice
Willump isn't just transportation. He swipes at foes with his mighty yeti-paw, clawing them with power.
Yeti-Back Ride
Nunu explores the Freljord with a great view from his seat on Willump's back. Great spot for snowball throwing, too.
Songs In The Key of Cool
Trained by his mother to play, Nunu can inspire allies with songs of the Freljord.
Willump the Yeti fits really well into Pathfinder's mechanics for Eidolons. Specifically, he's a Beast type, which starts him off big enough for the Small-sized Nunu to ride, and gives him Beast Charge, Primal Roar and Whirlwind Maul abilities that go great for a towering yeti.
In League, Nunu plays the flute and throws snowballs, while Willump smashes, rolls a giant snowball, and creates a huge "Absolute Zero" attack by sucking in his freezing breathe. Here, Nunu's Spell Slots will fill in for the giant snowball and absolute zero, allowing the duo to cast a few heavy frost-based spells.
But Willump's smashing remains all him. A claw attack and bite attack will be just right, and getting Advanced Weaponry to add a shove to the Claw Attack at level one will give him more control as a tank.
Tanking is a good fit for the duo. Frost spells can deal good damage, but they also do a great job of controlling the battlefield – slowing enemies and pushing them around. Since they share a health pool, Nunu can focus on Skills and Feats that increase health to keep the duo robust.
And because Nunu is always riding on the large Willump (helped by the Steed Form feat) he is usually out of harms way of melee anyway!
Build OVERVIEW
Ancestry
Gutsy Halfling
Is there anything gutsier than heading out into the cold to face a yeti? I haven't heard of it.
Being a Halfling stands in for being a human kid, size-wise. This allows Nunu to ride Willump from level one, before Willump grows larger.
Background
Entertainer
Nunu plays his flute, entertaining all who will listen with the tales of the Freljord.
This background fits him pretty well, and offers a Charisma boost which he'll need for both his Summoner class and his Bard Dedication.
Class
Summoner - Beast Eidolon
Nunu & Willump work together in tandem, smacking foes, throwing snowballs and blowing icy winds.
He'll also pick up a Bard Dedication along with the way to represent his proficiency with the flute.
Skills & General Feats
Nunu's legendary skills are pretty straightforward – if you're playing that flute in the snow, you're good at Nature and Performance.
Legendary: Nature, Performance
Master: Survival
Expert: Intimidation
